Counsellor and Psychotherapist

About Therapy

You may wonder what the difference between counselling and psychotherapy is. There is no clear cut answer to this question. Broadly, counselling is concerned with finding solutions to particular, current difficulties and is usually short term, perhaps 6-12 weeks. Psychotherapy works at a deeper level with patterns of thought and behaviour that may have been established many years ago and can vary in duration from 3 months to 3 years. We can review your specific needs as we go.

Whatever approach I adopt I will endeavour to treat you with gentleness, sensitivity and respect.

ConfidentialityOur work is confidential. In exceptional cases, (e.g. if a client reveals current abuse of children or intention to cause serious physical harm to him/herself or others), I might find it necessary to take this information outside of counselling. Wherever possible this would be in consultation with you and with your consent
For this reason, I normally request the name and address of your General Practitioner.
I receive regular supervision, but identities are not revealed.

My therapeutic work is conducted in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework. BACP LINK
